Summary of following article on Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

IBD is shared by dogs, cats and people. It is becoming more frequent and approaching epidemic proportions. It involves inflammation and immune response in the lining of the gastrointestinal tract. It is a serious disease which produces thickening of the bowel lining, can involve any or all of the GI tract from stomach to colon (bowel), chronic vomiting, bloating, pain, inappetance, diarrhea, sometimes with bleeding ulcers, steady weight loss, weakness and anemia. Cause is unknown.

May be associated with secondary fungus in the intestines or Helicobacter in the stomach. Diagnosis is with biopsy of tissue samples taken surgically or with an endoscope. Orthodox treatment is aimed on suppressing inflammatory process with powerful steroids, which on long- term basis necessary in this chronic disease can produce serious complications of secondary infections, suppressed immune system, non-responsive bone marrow depression anemia, osteoporosis, electrolyte/water imbalance, and endocrine dysfunction.

My philosophy of what I think is causing IBD, and my holistic preventative and treatment program presented.
